About Austin.com.co
An independent orientation to Austin, Texas — the shape of the city, the neighborhoods, and the life in it, written for the person just trying to get their bearings.
What this site covers
Austin.com.co is a plain-language guide to understanding Austin — the kind of orientation a good friend who already lives here would give you. We cover the shape of the city and how to read the map, how the neighborhoods fit together and who each one suits, what the place actually feels like day to day, and the outdoors, food, and music that give it its character. It is an editorial guide, not a listings directory.
Why it exists
Austin has grown fast enough that most of what is written about it is either a sales pitch or already out of date. Newcomers and visitors land with a jumble of impressions — weird, expensive, hot, techy, musical — and no frame to hang them on. This site exists to give that frame: a calm, honest read of the city you can get your footing from in an afternoon.
How we work
Every page is built to be useful first — no pop-ups, no paywall, no autoplay. We write our recommendations in our own words from our own read of the city, and we do not republish anyone else’s compiled lists or roundups. When we point you to a source, we link it and move on. Photography is Creative Commons or public-domain work from Wikimedia Commons, credited on the page.
Who publishes it
Austin.com.co is part of the WholeTech Network, an independent Austin, Texas publisher that has been building websites since 1996, starting with one of the city’s first online communities. The network spans more than a hundred sites, each focused on a single subject, all running on one server.
